A candle will be lit by representatives of the student body. The candle will remain lit for 24 hours.

A candlelight vigil will be held on the Drillfield at the April 16 Memorial to recognize the 32 students and faculty who lost their lives on April 16, 2007.

Expressions of Remembrance

The Words of Children: Selections from the April 16, 2007, Condolence Archives

From April 11 to April 22, "The Words of Children" exhibit will be on display at Newman Library on the 2nd floor. The exhibit will feature items sent to the university from children all over the world following the events of April 16th. Items are selected from the April 16, 2007, Condolence Archives, held by VT Special Collections and University Archives.

Launching April 11th, a digital exhibit will include many of the items on display as well as the memories of those affected by April 16th collected in the April 16, 2007, Oral History Collection. The digital exhibit will be available to view at https://tinyurl.com/April162022Exhibit.

Honor and remember the lives of 32 students and faculty who were taken from us 15 years ago. A moment of silence will take place at 9:43 a.m. Walk at your own pace on the Canal Path. Wearing Hokie colors is encouraged. If you wish to order the event shirt, you may do so here.

We will be dying eggs, helping with Easter-themed crafts and, weather permitting, having some outdoor games with the kids. We could use 2-4 volunteers to help with kids crafts. If you can’t make the event, but would like to participate, donations for the shelter can be delivered at our chapter meeting on Tuesday, April 12th at Rey Azteca on Route 1 at 7:00 p.m.

Please join the Peninsula Hokies as we remember the 32 students and faculty who were tragically taken from us on April 16, 2007. This event is open to all Hokies, their families, and friends. We will be running and walking on the Fort Monroe Seawall Trail. The run will start on the Seawall Trail directly next to the Paradise Ocean Club. There will be plenty of parking available. We will be having a bring-your-own-picnic party immediately following the walk/run at the Oozlefinch Brewery. We ask that attendees bring their own picnic. The Alumni Chapter will provide paper plates, napkins, cups, iced tea, water, a dessert, and snacks for everyone.

The Williamsburg Hokies will gather at the Williamsburg Botanical Garden in Freedom Park on Saturday morning to work on some projects. We will close the day at the Virginia Tech Memorial Bed to reflect on the lives lost. To register, please email wbghokies@gmail.com.

Denver Chapter

Please join the Denver Hokies as we remember the friends and families that we lost, and also to celebrate life, which is so precious. This event is open to all Hokies, their families, friends and dogs (on leashes). We’ll be setting up at Denver South High School parking lot, located across from the Southeast corner of Washington Park. There will be plenty of parking available. Please be there by 9:45 am for the GROUP PHOTO in front of the school and then we’ll hit the course!

Seattle Chapter

3.2 for 32 Remembrance Hike

Wear your Hokie colors and gather at Sky county Trailhead starting point in Bellevue, WA at 0830 on Saturday, 16 April. (Large parking lot). The hike is listed as easy and has less than a 400 ft. elevation gain. You can see more details using the All Trails app. Family is welcome to join and leashed dogs are allowed on the trail. Please be sure to wear hiking boots in case muddy. We will do this rain or shine.

Baltimore Chapter

Charleston Chapter

Remembrance Run
April 16 from 2:30 – 5 p.m.
Meet at Marion Square at Calhoun Street

Please come out in your maroon & orange to run, walk or show your support. We will have some other activities at Marion Square for those who do not want to participate in the run, and we can always use volunteers who are willing to stay at Marion Square during the run. Following the run, we will head over to The Brick where they'll be streaming the VT Spring Game (starting at 4:00 pm.). This is a remembrance run, not a formal race. Roads are not blocked for this event. Please run at your own risk.

Tri-Cities Chapter

Start at River’s Bend Community Pool in Chester

Let's meet and show our Virginia Tech pride and honor those who lost their lives at the place we all love. We will meet at the parking lot of the pool in the River's Bend community in Chester and begin our walk a little after 2:30 pm. After the walk, those who are interested can head over to Paddy's Sports Bar and Grill (341 East Hundred Road) to watch the Spring Game.

San Diego Chapter

The run/walk will end at Bub’s, our alumni restaurant. If you aren’t interested in the 3.2, Bub’s will be opening at 10:30 to host everyone for brunch and the spring football game at 1 PM. There will be a raffle with proceeds going to the VT Memorial Scholarship Fund, the local chapter scholarship fund, and a local non-profit focused on mental health programs. Orange County Chapter

Join fellow OC Hokie Alumni as we gather to pay tribute and remember the 32 lives lost in Blacksburg in 2007. A luncheon will follow at Chuck Allen’s home. We ask those planning to attend the post-walk lunch to make a donation of any amount to the OC Chapter Scholarship Fund.
